Caroline Seckinger Works presents recent works by the East Bay artist, many of which are on public view for the first time, in a dynamic installation employing a range of media to investigate socio-cultural notions of gender, marriage, and work. Taking the wedding dress as both material and metaphor, Seckinger deconstructs the institution, articulating its many aspects in both bold and nuanced artistic statements.

“I am working in several realms of inquiry,” notes Seckinger, “one being conceptual: working on the possibility of making a form that will reflect an aspect of our society. The other is material and process based. What does this material offer in its malleability, and in repetition or reconstruction of its original form?”

Slate Art & Design is a new contemporary art gallery, opened by Danielle Fox in April 2009. Fox comments, “Caroline’s work is very conceptual, which demands a lot from the viewer. But I believe this body of work has an intense and very moving quality even if you are just appreciating it in purely visual and sensual terms.”
