The
British Hairdressing Awards is the biggest annual
event for the Hairdressing industry in Great Britain. The
other
proffessionals in the team were the very talented stylist,
Samantha Nathan, from the Martin Gold Salon, and
the proffesional photographer, Will White. We created
two different themes to enter the Avant Garde category
of the competition. The first was inspired by a variety
of
artists from different centuries from the History of Art,
spanning from the 16th to the 20th century, Masters like
Bronzino,
Rembrandt, Renoir, and Kline. Our goal was to make the model
look like a classic painting. One of the competition rules
at the time was to not use computer editing. So to create
this effect the hand made props and painted bodies draped
with painted muslin all help the model to blend into the
painted plastered backdrop. The grand hair formations
would still
get the main focus. The Second theme was Sea life. We used
the same blending techniques as before. The two themes
where
published in the Hairdresser's Journal International.
We were nominated as finalists for the Avant Garde category
at The
British Hairdressing Awards in 1993.
